In plant Photosystem II, photons absorbed by chlorophyll pigments in light-harvesting complexes (LHCs) have to reach reaction centers before fluorescence decay takes over. Under high-light conditions, excess of excitation formed in the supercomplex has to be dissipated to prevent photodamage. Special routes and safety exits must be mastered to win the challenge... just like in a videogame! This analogy inspired our graphics for the front cover of the February Issue of the journal Cell Reports Physical Science.
